Chiller was released in 1985 for the ZX Spectrum 48K. The game was published by Mastertronic Ltd and developed by Richard Wright and Ray Owen, with inlay and poster art provided by John Smyth.
This arcade platformer supports a single player. Controls include cursor keys, Kempston joystick, and Interface 2. The backing music caused controversy due to its resemblance to Michael Jackson's 'Thriller', leading Mastertronic to negotiate royalties and update the music for future production runs.
The cassette was priced at £1.99. The game was also made available for Amstrad CPC, Commodore 64, and MSX platforms.
Crash magazine awarded the game a score of 42%.
The game gained recognition in Russia due to numerous POKE codes for infinite lives frequently featured in electronic magazines. It was also available through several cracked cassette versions and a dedicated TR-DOS release.
