Fighting Warrior was released in 1985 for the ZX Spectrum 48K by Melbourne House. The development team consisted of coder Stephen Cargill and in-game graphics artist Russell Comte, with inlay art provided by Steinar Lund.
As a solo beat-em-up arcade game, it features border effects and a custom screen loader. Players control the action using cursor keys, a Kempston joystick, or an Interface 2 controller.
The game retailed at £7.95 on cassette. It was also made available for the Amstrad CPC, Commodore 64, and Commodore Plus/4 platforms.
The title holds an average magazine score of 63.86%. While Sinclair User and ZX Computing awarded it 4/5 and 5/5 respectively, later reviews in Crash and Your Sinclair provided lower scores.
In the Soviet Union and Russia, the game gained recognition through multiple TR-DOS versions released by groups such as Phantom Ltd, T&S Soft, and AmoNik. Cracked cassette versions by Vatroslav and Satansoft were also widely circulated.
