Harrier Attack! was released in 1983 for the ZX Spectrum 16K by Durell Software. The game design and concept were created by Robert White and Ron Jeffs, while Mike A. Richardson handled the code and in-game graphics.
This single-player arcade shoot-em-up features border effects and a short gameplay loop lasting under three minutes. The title is based on a Konami arcade coin-op. Mike Richardson later noted that his versions for the ZX Spectrum and Amstrad were primarily based on the Oric version written by Ron Jeffs.
The game retailed at £5.5. It was also made available for the Amstrad CPC and Commodore 64 platforms.
The game holds an average magazine score of 43%. It received a 3/5 rating from Your Computer and a 26% score from Computer & Video Games.
The game became very popular in Russia. Enthusiasts released eight different TR-DOS versions from groups like D-Love and DeadMan, and a Russian translation by vBv appeared in 1991. Numerous cracked cassette versions were also widely distributed.
