This arcade shoot-em-up is designed for a single player. The game leverages the official license of the hit police drama to bring its crime-fighting theme to the home computer format.
The cassette version of the game was priced at £7.95. Beyond the ZX Spectrum, Miami Vice was also released for the Amstrad CPC and Commodore 64 platforms.
Critical reception varied significantly, with Crash magazine awarding 27% and Your Sinclair giving it an 8/10 score. The game holds an average magazine rating of 53.5%.
In the Soviet Union, the game gained recognition through a review in ZX-Review magazine. It was widely available on disk systems, featuring numerous TR-DOS versions released by groups such as LAKS, Slider, and Mike Blum.
