Taper

Taper is a utility program for the ZX Spectrum, developed to assist with tape-based software management.

The utility falls under the media administration category and is designed for a single user. Its primary features include tools for handling cassette data and calibrating tape recorders, which served as a practical aid for loading and managing software.

In Russia and the former Soviet Union, Taper was recognized as a technical utility rather than a game. It appeared in publications like ZX Forum and Adventurer, where it was discussed for its ability to analyze sound frequencies and its role in tape copying processes. The software was also adapted for TR-DOS systems and distributed on diskettes, with various cracked tape versions also circulating among users.
